Answer
Saving Canna Bulbs and Dahlia Tubers
After the first frost, cut the plant stem to just a couple inches above ground. Dig the plants out of the ground (or pot) and remove as much of the dirt as possible from the bulb or tuber. Set the bulb or tuber out to dry for 7-10 days until it toughens a little. Wrap the bulb or tuber in newspaper and store it in a cool, dry place until the spring.
Dahlias usually have several tubers; these will not each grow a new plant. The tuber needs a part of the stalk to grow.
Canna bulbs can be divided in the spring. Divide the bulbs so that each division has an ‘eye’. A new plant will not grow without an ‘eye’.
