Answer
Container Vegetable Gardens
- Whiskey barrels make excellent vegetable containers; but many other containers work well also.
- Be sure the container has good drainage. If there isn’t adequate drainage, drill a few holes in the bottom
- Use small rocks, broken clay pots, or Styrofoam peanuts in the bottoms of containers to keep the soil from leaking out.
- Avoid sprawling plants such as melons, squash, and cucumbers
- For climbing vegetables such as climbing peas or beans, use 3 small bamboo or fiberglass stakes. Push the stakes to the bottom of the container, secure all three tops together with twine or rubber bands to form a tepee. The plants will climb the stakes.
