Answer
Determinate vs. Indeterminate
Determinate or bush tomato varieties are those that reach a certain plant height and then stop growing. Most of their fruit is produced over a four to six week period.
Indeterminate varieties continue to grow and flower throughout the season with an unlimited production potential, but have less mature fruits at any one time.
Determinate Tomatoes
- Vine ends in fruit
- No new fruit after first fruit ripens
- Smaller plants
- Grows in smaller spaces
- Doesn't always need staking
- Produces early in season
Indeterminate Tomatoes
- Keeps forming new vine
- Keeps forming new fruit
- Bigger Plants
- Needs lots of space
- Needs staking or caging
- Produces later in season
