Controlling Aphids
  • Keep the grass around the garden mowed.
  • Use row covers.
  • A reflective mulch like aluminum foil repels aphids.
  • Application of fermented extract of stinging nettle repels them.
  • Homemade Sprays:Tomato or potato leaf juice
  • Garlic, onion, or pepper
  • Boil 1 pound of spinach or rhubarb leaves for 30 minutes in 1 quart of water, strain, cool, and add a touch of soap (not detergent).
  • Insecticidal soap or lime solution spray
  • Forceful water jets 2-3 times a day
