Gardening Tips

  • Annuals, Bedding Plants and Vegetables
    • To have beautiful plants all summer, fertilize your annual beds and planters regularly and cut off the spent blooms. Be sure to water you annuals daily, and be generous with the water. Applying mulch can help keep your waterings to a minimum. Annuals in the shade can take it a little drier.
  • Herbs
    • The more you use and pinch your herb plants, the better they will grow. Almost all herbs require full sun. Herbs are great for cooking, teas, and keeping certain pests at bay.
  • Perennials
    • Breaking up the root ball of your new plant aids in its establishment into its new garden home. They need love too, water, trimming, and fertilizing as needed.
  • Soils and Mulches
    • Using mulch in your gardens helps to reduce weeds and holds moisture in the ground. Using the right kind of fertilizer can help your plants thrive, and don't forget to brake up that hard clay with some good old top soil.
  • Trees and Shrubs
    • When planting a new tree or shrub, be sure to provide adequate water the first two years (rule of thumb - the equivalent of an inch of rainfall per week). Break up the root ball and give your tree or shrub the appropriate size hole.
